Main Street
The Texas Main Street Program originated in 1986, is part of the Texas Historical Commission's Community Heritage Development Division. The program is among the most successful downtown revitalization programs in the nation. Royse City has been a Texas Main Street city since the year 2007. The purpose of Royse City Main Street is to encourage downtown revitalization within the context of historic preservation. The district consists, generally, of the commercial district on Elm Street (north of Old Greenville Street) to Church Street. At Main Street, the district boundaries expand east to Josephine Street and west just passed Houston Street.
The Royse City Main Street Program has been Nationally Accredited since 2008. As a Main Street America™ Accredited program, Royse City, Texas is a recognized leading program among the national network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities who share both a commitment to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development. All Main Street America™ Accredited programs meet a set of National Accreditation Standards of Performance as outlined by the National Main Street Center.

Our Vision
The Royse City Main Street program envisions downtown Royse City as a sustainable business district, where businesses thrive and historic buildings are valued. Main Street is the heart of Royse City, providing an enhanced sense of community for people of all ages and backgrounds, whether they've lived here for many years or recently moved to Royse City.
Our Mission
The Royse City Main Street Program is dedicated to building economic vitality and preserving the character of historic downtown Royse City. We employ the principles of historic preservation, the encouragement of community involvement, and the Four Point Approach of organization, design, economic restructuring, and promotion to attract businesses, visitors, and residents to the Main Street district. By using these tools, the historic downtown will remain a special place to the community.
Façade Grant Program
The Royse City Main Street Program has targeted $20,000 annually to provide façade grants to building owners in the downtown area. The program is administered through the Main Street Advisory Board and the Main Street Office. The goal of the program is to provide funding assistance to improve historic building façades within the Main Street District. Buildings designated as historic by the State of Texas or the Main Street Advisory Board and restoration of storefronts to their historic status will be given preference.
Grants are currently available on a first-come, first-serve basis and depending on available funds. To apply for a grant, complete a grant application (PDF) and return it to the City of Royse City Main Street Office. Applications are also available at the Main Street Office
Exterior Alternations
Except for routine maintenance, approval from the Main Street Advisory Board of exterior alterations to downtown building façades is required before work can begin. This includes signage changes, new paint colors, or any other physical changes. The Texas Main Street Program provides design assistance to official Main Street communities. Rooted in historic preservation, a range of services are offered to individual property/business owners and Main Street Managers within the designated Main Street District as part of a community's program. To apply for design assistance, complete the design assistance form (PDF) and return it to the Main Street Office.
